Tafida Abubakar Illa, the Emir or Rano, is dead.

He died at 75 on Saturday May 2, 2020.

Mr Illa was one of the newly installed emirs in Kano, North West Nigeria after the governor Abdullahi Ganduje, broke up the old Kano Emirate into four new emirates.

An official of the Rano Emirate Council who spoke with LAGOS TIMES on the condition of anonymity, because he had not been authorized to speak to the press said that news of the emir’s death filtered into the palace at around 4 PM.

The late emir had been admitted into the Mallam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on Friday where he was being treated for an undisclosed illness.

He was later evacuated to the Nasarawa Specialist Hospital after his condition deteriorated.
